  • WHAT EXACTLY IS AN AI DATA CENTER?

An AI data center is not simply a large building filled with computers.

Inside are powerful processors that train and operate artificial intelligence systems. These machines handle enormous amounts of information and perform millions of calculations at extremely high speeds.

But those computers cannot operate alone. They depend on electrical substations, backup generators, network connections, cooling equipment, security systems, and, depending on the cooling design, water infrastructure.

Traditional data centers may support websites, banking systems, cloud storage and streaming services. AI workloads can require significantly more computing power because advanced models perform intensive calculations using specialized chips.

That is why communities should examine the complete facility—not just the building. They must understand the power supply, cooling technology, water demand, noise, backup systems, and surrounding infrastructure.

At AI DATA CENTER EDUCATION™, our responsibility is to translate this complicated technology into information ordinary people can understand and use.

  • AI DATA CENTERS ARE COMING: IS YOUR COMMUNITY READY?

AI data centers are expanding across America, but many communities do not begin asking serious questions until a project is already moving through the approval process.

Being ready does not mean automatically supporting or opposing development. It means understanding what is being proposed.

How much electricity will the facility require? Where will the water come from? Who will pay for new substations, transmission lines, roads and emergency services? How many jobs will remain after construction ends? What tax incentives are being requested, and what protections will residents receive?

The Department of Energy’s Berkeley Lab projects that data centers could consume between 9.5% and 15.3% of United States electricity by 2030. That does not mean every project is harmful. It means every project deserves serious evaluation.

AI DATA CENTER EDUCATION™ does not tell communities what to think. We help them understand what questions to ask before permanent decisions are made.
